Business of the Year

Business of the Year recognize the company that made the most significant contribution benefiting the Mason County business community.  Any size business is eligible; recognition will be given overall contributions to improving our community and/or business climate. The nominees for 2017 are Domino's Pizza, Off the Walls! Gallery, and The Shopper.

Business_DSC_3777-Edit-SQUARE_Dominos.jpg Domino’s Pizza is known for their great deals and delicious pizza but here, in Shelton, they’re so much more. Led by manager Jaron Garza, the Domino’s team has achieved corporate and franchise awards for sales and operations as well as community nods like the Journal’s Best of Mason County. Their “Dough Raising” nights support numerous school organizations and clubs, and often share the love through pizza donations: teacher appreciation week, national EMT/first responder’s week, national nurse’s week, Career Day at Choice High School, and they have been major sponsors of Relay For Life, to name a few. One nominator said “Domino’s empowers Jaron and his team to support local causes. Jaron is generous, compassionate, and enthusiastic. His kindness and willingness to give to local charities, non-profits, youth, and those less fortunate is an amazing example.”

Off the Walls! Gallery owner Shelly Barnett has an extensive background in the arts. She operated a gallery in Portland, OR and then took a prestigious position at a gallery for a nationally known artist. In February 2014, Shelly opened her gallery in Shelton where she readily shares her passion of art with the community and helps local organizations – Community Lifeline, Crossroads, Adopt-A-Pet, Kitten Rescue, and Choice High School, to name a few – all  while doing what she loves. Shelly is the founder of Retailers Alliance of Downtown Shelton, spearheading Girls Night Out events and encouraging residents and visitors to patronize the unique retailers in the downtown core. This year she hosted a first-ever Budding Artists Show for young artists aged 5-17 in an effort to foster creativity and encourage entrepreneurial spirit. “Her tireless efforts to promote others and their good works in the community speak to her kind heart and love of Mason County and Shelton.”

The Shopper is a one-stop shop for printing, advertising, promotional materials, and office and spa supplies. Owners Jeff & Tracy Neely have built a great business along with daughter Kelsie Smith and their ten-person staff. For more than 25 years the business has been growing its footprint and its contributions to the community.  One nomination read “Jeff, Tracy, and their team are amazing! The service they provide and the quality or their work outshines any competitors. The volunteering and donations they share shows their commitment and care for our community.” This year alone, their contributions supported United Way, Karen Hilburn Breast & Cervical Cancer Fund, Mason General Hospital Foundation, Relay For Life, SHS Robotics Team, Forest Festival, Phoenix Base Project, OysterFest, local schools, and many, many more.
