The Chamber's Board of Trustees has decided to terminate the annual auction citing that it doesn't align with the Chamber's mission. Director Heidi McCutcheon says, "We asked members to donate something. And then we asked members to pay to attend. And then we asked members to buy things. It was a lot of asking when what the Chamber ought to be doing is a lot of giving."
McCutcheon says she's received some sighs of relief and some of sadness, mainly from people who liked having a Chamber event in the spring. "To compensate for canceling an event, I'm happy to announce our newest, carefree, fun, and laid back event yet!"
Here enters the inaugural April Showers event. This one day festival will showcase BBQ, seafood, music and nearby breweries at Mason Lake. The entrance fee will likely include one food sample and a commemorative pint glass.
Recently, members of the Shelton-Mason County Chamber became eligible to receive a complimentary access card to Green Diamond's Mason Lake Rec Area which lead to holding an event there. April Showers is intended to be a festival of the Pacific Northwest. What's more Northwest than rain, food and beer? We can't think of anything more fitting, except for maybe camping (which Chamber members can make reservations beginning March 1). So, gather up your galoshes, slip on your slicker and head out to Mason Lake Rec Area to celebrate life on the Wild Side of Washington.
The Chamber will make announcements as the celebration details come together - stay tuned!
