Shelton School District

The Shelton School District provides instructional services to approximately 4,000 students in grades K-12 in three elementary schools, one middle school, one comprehensive high school, and one alternative high school. In addition to the core academic program, the district offers a strong vocational/technical program, and supports programs for highly capable students, students with disabilities, and students with other educational challenges. The district provides a comprehensive co-curricular program that encourages involvement in athletics, the arts and other activities. Shelton High is the proud home of a national award winning Naval Junior Reserve Office Training Corps program.

North Mason School District
The second largest school district is the North Mason School District in Belfair, the northern area of Mason County. There are currently 2,000 students enrolled in this district. The wetlands located in Belfair offer a unique working laboratory to study biology, water quality, ecology and other hands on experience.

Mary M. Knight School District
The Mary M. Knight School District, in Dayton and Matlock, the western portion of Mason County, has 220 students in grades K-12. The curriculum includes academic basics, plus vocational training where the Food Services Department has received prestigious awards.

The other three school districts in the county are K-8 and filter into one of the larger three districts for high school. These districts are Grapeview, Hood Canal, Pioneer and Southside.

Mason County has four private schools that serve 200 students.

Olympic College is currently enrolling nearly 3,000 students per year. The Shelton branch is comprised of two locations. Courses and programs at these locations include an academic transfer degree (AAS), vocational degrees and certificates (ATA), workforce training and retraining, adult high school completion, basic skills training, GED preparation, citizenship, English as a second language, community service, and continuing education.
